On a walk through the park the other day, I heard a sound I hadn’t heard in months, and realized it’s one of the things I miss most during this pandemic – the sound of a kid’s bat hitting a ball. There was, for the first time since March, a little league practice going on at the park. Kids were running bases, throwing “long toss,” and, yes, hitting the ball – all at a safe distance apart from each other with hand sanitizer on the sidelines. I stood there watching for quite a while, remembering what Spring and Summer are supposed to look and sound like. I remain optimistic – the pandemic will wind down, a vaccine will become available, new therapies will be proven effective for the most vulnerable…and little league will return.
